| Top 5 Most Ridiculous Campaign Ads |

After posting MoveOn.org’s Obama campaign ad, I decided I should compile a list of ads to kick start our scavenger hunt. Here’s a list of really bad/disturbing campaign ads throughout the past 50 years. Stupid Fat Kids: How do you mix sexual deviance and fat kids? This campaign ad does just that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FurT0Vc1Xpw IKE for President: This one was done by Walt Disney in 1952. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh4DwU_3ujI Racial Quotas: If this ad isn’t trying to court racists, then I’m really missing something. I understand why people oppose quotas; however, I think you can (and should) approach this from a cross cultural standpoint. It doesn’t matter your skin color, being passed over for employment because of government regulation always hurts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIyewCdXMzk Obama/Hillary back and forth: You get to see the entire story here. From the first attack by Clinton, to Obama’s response; this less than 2 min video captures the spirit of American political debate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb5AQpShLrI RNC ad in Tennessee: Here’s a good old fashioned attack piece from 2006. It’s got it all – fantastic assumptions, sexual innuendoes, threats to national security, and a ditzy blonde. I especially like the part where the middle aged woman said, “Terrorists need their privacy!” Wow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vZF5ZTu2Go&NR=1 Good campaign ad: You can say what you want about Democrats, but at least one of them has some real creativity going on. Bill Richardson’s new ads are phenomenal. It’s so creative how they mixed information with entertainment. It’s close to perfect, except its cheesy…which is part of its charm. But notice two things. They downplay the importance of the White House. I’m not accusing them of being insincere. But they made it part of the joke, and that is very disarming. The setting alone said, “Ignore typical politics, and watch this interesting scene.” This can only mean good things if you’re an ‘underdog’ trying to appear more presidential. Of all the great things said about Bill Richardson in these commercials, Bill himself didn’t say but one. He looks humble and proud sitting in the chair. These are great ads, in general. I’m not behind Bill as president, but I really like his approach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjOuL5qwNIc
